The Distortion

Nancy Leigh DeMoss: All of us can think of marriages that don’t follow the biblical ideal. We’ve heard of horrible cases of men abusing their wives. There are also less dramatic situations of men being passive, of women belittling or domineering their husbands or being overly passive and never speaking up.
We need to recognize that none of these situations reflects God’s plan. They are distortions of the plan He put in place.
The God who calls men to love and sacrifice for their wives doesn’t want men to be abusive or domineering. It grieves His heart, just as it does when women disrespect their husbands. The God who gave intelligence, gifts, and abilities to His children doesn’t want men or women to be passive either.
Don’t let a distortion of God’s plan keep you from experiencing the blessing of that plan—for men to provide loving, sacrificial leadership and for women to respond to that leadership with intelligent, joyful submission.
With Seeking Him, I’m Nancy Leigh DeMoss.
